Infants Room

Our Infants’ Room provides care and education for up to 8 children each day aged from 4 months to 2 years with three early childhood educators.

We provide individual care and education with personalised orientation programs where the infant’s routine at home is replicated as much as possible. Establishing a primary carer within the room throughout orientation provides infants with responsive and trusting relationships which in turn develops their self-esteem and confidence in their surroundings. Educators work in partnership with families to provide continuity of care.

The Infants’ room is a flexible space which allows us to best meet the needs of the mixed age group, equipped with nappy change station, toilet, cots, mattresses, fridge, microwave and a bottle warmer.

The addition of a permanent automated Vergola outside has created an all-weather space, protected from the elements. This can be adjusted to the needs of the group, with space for cars, trikes and climbing outdoors as well as a beach style sandpit. Inside, the room has activities on the floor, tables, and shelves encouraging children to build their strength standing and moving about. At sleep and rest time there are a mixture of cots and mattresses depending on the age and stage of the child.

Educators use children’s routine times such as nappy changing and mealtimes to develop and extend relationships with children creating security and warmth for the infant/ young child.

The children in this group are included in the Centre’s music program from Term 2 (Supporting each child to settle in and form relationships is prioritized during Term 1). This program is offered on a different day of the week each term to allow as many children to participate as possible. Additionally the children in the Infants room are invited to participate in ad hoc visits from external providers throughout the year (formally incursions).

All nappy’s, wipes, sunscreen and food are provided at the Centre. Families are only asked to provide Infant breast milk or formula.
